In addition to an ADAC Pinnacle3 treatment planning system, the USC Radiation Oncology Physics Division has developed its own advanced 3D medical imaging and radiation treatment planning software for both external beam and brachytherapy treatment. The image above illustrates how CT virtual simulation and a digitally reconstructed radiograph (DRR) are used to collimate a lateral beam to the shape of the prostate. This Quicktime movie (3 MB) illustrates the highly conformal dose distribution which results when six collimated fields are used to treat prostate cancer.
